Move with Intention: How Pilates Can Reshape More Than Just Your Body
Hey girllll heyyy!
Let me tell you a little secret... I used to think Pilates was just stretching for older ladies (I know, I know—so wrong!). But after a year and a half of doing it, guess what? I’m that girl now—and wow, I’ve never felt this strong or confident in my life!
My Pilates Journey: From Gym Girly to Pilates Princess
Okay, so I’m still a gym girly—there’s nothing like a good sweat session to clear my mind. The gym is my “me time,” where I vibe out to my favorite music (mostly Afrobeats) and push myself to lift heavier every day. It’s my sanctuary.
But let me tell you, nothing—and I mean nothing—has challenged me like Pilates. It’s a completely different vibe. After doing Pilates for over a year and a half, it’s become my happy place. Can I be real, though? My first class had me shaking like a leaf just trying to hold a 30-second plank. (Spoiler: I couldn’t do it then, and sometimes I still can’t!)
But I keep showing up, and now my core feels stronger than ever—especially after two C-sections. My core was definitely not the same after having kids, but Pilates has changed the game for me. My posture? She’s thriving. And hopefully this year, I’ll finally get those abs and that six-pack. Of course, that’s more than just Pilates and weights... food has a lot to say in that conversation too!
The Benefits of Pilates: It’s More Than a Workout
Pilates isn’t just about looking good and wearing a cute fit—It’s about intentional movement. Every exercise has a purpose, and you can feel it. Here’s what I’ve noticed:
Physical Strength: Pilates doesn’t just work your core (though it does a lot of that); it strengthens your whole body. Arms, legs, back, you name it.
Flexibility: I can now touch my toes without feeling like I’m about to snap in half (my girlies over 30 understand). Small wins, babe!
Mental Health: There’s something about focusing on your breath and movements that clears your mind. It’s like therapy but with planks.
Posture: I’ve stopped looking like a question mark and started standing tall. Pilates teaches you to align your body, and it’s a total game-changer.
Start Small: Your At-Home Pilates Routine
If you’re not ready to commit to a studio just yet, no worries. Here’s a super simple routine you can try at home. Grab a mat (or a towel) and let’s move:
The Hundred: Lie on your back, lift your legs to a tabletop position, and pump your arms up and down while breathing in for five counts and out for five counts. Do this for 10 rounds.
Roll-Ups: Lie flat on your back with your arms extended overhead. Slowly roll up to touch your toes, then roll back down. Do 10 reps.
Leg Circles: Lie on your back, lift one leg toward the ceiling, and draw small circles with your toes. Do 10 circles in each direction, then switch legs.
Plank Holds: Get into a plank position and hold for 20 seconds. Work your way up to a full minute over time.
Bridge Lifts: Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lift your hips toward the ceiling, squeeze your glutes, and lower back down. Do 15 reps.
Ready to Level Up?
Once you’ve mastered the basics, I highly recommend signing up for a studio class. The energy is contagious, the instructors know their stuff, and honestly, the accountability is chef’s kiss. Plus, nothing motivates you like seeing someone else crush a teaser like it’s no big deal.
Final Thoughts
Pilates isn’t just a workout; it’s a vibe, a lifestyle, and a reminder to move with intention. It’s taught me to slow down, focus on my body, and appreciate what it can do. And let me tell you, that’s a powerful thing. So roll out your mat, channel your inner Pilates Princess, and let’s reshape more than just our bodies. You’ve got this!
And, if your are in the orlando area DM me to come join me for a class at my studio so we can be pilates princesses together.
XOXO, Adri
